Iraq's cooperation with the IAEA Safeguards Agreement and the NPT

A Five-Person International Atomic Energy Agency inspection team visited Iraq during the period 22-25 January 2000. The inspection team carried out a physical inventory verification of the nuclear material in Iraq under the terms of the Safeguards Agreement between Iraq and the IAEA in connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
The Agency Inspectors were able to verify the nuclear material subject to Safeguards, which consists of low enriched, natural and depleted uranium.
On March 24, 2000 the IAEA informed Iraq of the results of the abovementioned inspection. The results indicate that all agency seals on the nuclear materials were intact, and the verification of other nuclear materials subject to Safeguards proves identical to the inventory.
The IAEA stated also that Iraqi side provided the necessary cooperation for the inspection team to perform its activities effectively.
This inspection proves, once again, Iraq's fulfillment of its obligations under the Safeguards Agreement and under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation on Nuclear Weapons.
